Ed ecco che dopo questa parentesi storica, pienamente meritata dal Commodore 64, passiamo ad analizzare quelle che sono le caratteristiche della nuova versione, allineata a livello hardware a quelle che sono le caratteristiche dei PC attuali, non certamente al prezzo, ancora un po' troppo alto (si parte da 999 $), che farà storcere il naso ai nostalgici, in quanto lo rende un oggetto del desiderio non alla portata di tutti.
In effetti il nuovo Commodore 64 mantiene solo la linea (la scocca o case come lo si vuole chiamare) di quello che era prima, si presenta in due versioni differenti Extreme ed Ultimate e lascia spazio alla seguenti specifiche tecniche :
